2)Uses
The indefinite articles (un, une, des) generally have the same uses as the English indefinite articles a or an.
They precede a common noun which is:
-indefinite : Un enfant joue. (A child is playing.)
-indeterminate : Des livres sont sur la table. (Books are on the table.)
Notice that:
- The indefinite articles agree in gender with the singular noun:
Un garçon. ( A boy:Masculine) Une fille. ( A girl: Feminine)
- The indefinite articles agree in number but no in gender with the plural noun:
Des garçons et des filles. (Boys and girls.)
- The indefinite article un or une can be a numerale adjective as the English word one:
J'ai un garçon et deux filles. I have one (or a) boy and two girls.
