  • Use "au" for "in" or "to" with singular masculine names of countries beginning with a consonant: au Congo, au Canada, au Maroc, au Mexique ...

Example: Je vais au Canada. (I'm going to Canada.)
Je vis au Mexique. (I live in Mexico.)

  • Use "aux" for "in" or "to" with plural names of countries: aux Philippines, aux Etats-Unis...

Example: Etes-vous déjà allé aux Etats-Unis ?(Have you been to the United States?)

  • But use"en" for "in" or "to"with feminine singular names beginning with a consonant: la France: en France

Example: Je vais en France. (I'm going to France.)

  • Use"en" for "in" or "to" with feminine singular names beginning with a vowel: l'Egypte: en Egypte

Example: Je vis en Egypte . (I live in Egypt.)

  • And use"en" for "in" or "to" with masculine singular names of countries beginning with a vowel: l'Afghanistan: en Afghanistan...

Example: Etes-vous déjà allé en Afghanistan? (Have you been to Afghanistan?)Est-ce que cous habitez en Italie? (Do you live in Italia?)
